There are two opportunities to begin the online Master of Engineering in Industrial and Systems Engineering and online Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering programs each year: fall and spring.

The admission requirements and application materials for both programs are listed below. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, but applicants should be sure to submit materials ahead of the application deadline to ensure adequate time for review. Prospective students can expect to receive an admission decision approximately one week after submitting a completed application.

Admission Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree
    Applicants from all undergraduate degrees are welcome. Common majors include engineering, mathematics, and physics.

    • MEng in MAE
      Depending on their educational backgrounds, students will be required to complete remediation courses. See below for details.
    • MEng in ISE
      Students are required to have completed four semesters of calculus.
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA: 3.0
    Applicants with a GPA lower than 3.0 may still be considered for admission. Work experience in related fields and/or an upward trajectory on transcripts is viewed positively.

  • Three letters of recommendation
    Letters of recommendation should come from academic or professional sources.
  • Personal statement
    Your personal statement should be 1-2 pages in length. Describe your interests, career goals, as well as your background and experiences that have prepared you for graduate school.
  • Résumé/CV
    Include your education history and relevant experience.

  • TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores (international applicants only)
    International applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking school or from a school in the U.S. may be eligible to waive this requirement.
  • GRE/GMAT scores are not required, but recommended.

Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Remediation Courses

Students completing the online Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program with undergraduate degrees in physics; mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, and related disciplines; or civil engineering will be required to complete remediation courses prior to beginning the program. Remediation for Students with Undergraduate Degrees in Physics

The courses listed below are required of students entering the Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with undergraduate degrees in physics. Additional remediation may be required on a case-by-case basis. Similarly, exceptions may be made and graduate credit may be given for up to two 400-level undergraduate courses on a case-by-case basis.

  • 650:312 – Fluid Mechanics (graduate credit will not be given)
  • 650:458 – Aerospace Structures (graduate credit may be given)
  • 650:401 – System Dynamics and Controls (graduate credit may be given)
  • 650:481 – Heat Transfer (graduate credit may be given)

Remediation for Students with Undergraduate Degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Related Disciplines

The courses listed below are required of students entering the Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with undergraduate degrees in mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, and related disciplines. Additional remediation may be required on a case-by-case basis. Similarly, exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

  • 440:222 – Dynamics (graduate credit will not be given), unless an equivalent course was taken elsewhere.
  • 650:351 – Thermodynamics (graduate credit will not be given)
  • 650:312 – Fluid Mechanics (graduate credit will not be given)
  • 650:458 – Aerospace Structures (graduate credit may be given)
  • 650:401 – System Dynamics and Controls (graduate credit may be given)
